Sunday Service Time Change
Our collaboration with Freeville and Harmony Methodist churches will affect Cortland FUMC Sunday service starting time. Our church Council has met and after much discussion it was decided that an 11 am service would work best. Starting Sunday July 7 our worship service will start at 11 am. Pastor Douglas “BB” Watson will be doing his first service with our church on Sunday July 7 at 11 am. He will be doing Sunday services at Freeville at 8 am, Harmony at 9:30 am, and then return to cover our church service at 11 am. Pastor BB will be residing in our parsonage. We understand change is always difficult but trust you will be in prayer about this change as we transition to our new pastor and collaborate with Freeville and Harmony churches.

Church Interior Repair
Now that roofs on all three church structures have been replaced, work will soon begin on the interior of the church to repair the ceilings and walls damaged by the roof leaks sustained over the past several years. Repairs will be done in a priority sequence starting with areas where mold has built up and people meet and congregate in places like the office, entrance way, and Cry Room. Repairs to the rest of the areas in the church such as the hallways, library, Fellowship Hall, and classrooms will be completed for as long as our roof fund balance holds out. The roof fund balance will be carefully monitored as the project progresses. No money will be taken out of our operating fund to cover the cost for any of these repairs.
Community Game Night
We will be having another Community Game Night on Friday, January 12, 2024, from 6:00-10:00 PM at the church. Please join us!
Safe Sanctuaries Training
Safe Sanctuaries training will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024, from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM at the church. Adults 18 and older must receive Safe Sanctuaries training and be compliant before working or volunteering with children, youth, and adults of First United Methodist Church.
